Porongahau Community Water Tanks

Porongahau

Central Hawkes Bay District Council

In August 2015, Kliptank completed a project for three Community Water Tanks for the Porongahau township of the Central Hawkes Bay District Council.

The specifications of the tank are:

  • Three x 5.35m diameter tanks
  • Three x 5.35m diameter tanks
  • 3m high
  • Trussed roof cover with roof hatch, 100% light block out, rodent and mosquito proof
  • Access ladders

Porongahau has a permanent population of less than 200, which can double during the summer months. A bore at Te Paerahi Beach supplies the tanks. The council needed an upgraded infrastructure storage solution which would provide a reasonable construction time frame, provide the most compact internal pipe network with easy operation in maintenance periods, a compact compound to house the reservoir and easy flexible repositioning of the tanks should it be required.

The CHBDC was replacing their existing concrete water tanks on a tightly spaced existing foot print. The council required a carefully staged site installation, the new larger capacity Kliptank's were to provide and ensure the reservoir supply system remained in operation during construction. The new Kliptank's also provide the fire-fighting water.

"I needed a more robust site with increased tank storage, and greater capacity to monitor the site as well as increased security of the compound in both ground stability and public access" said Harry Robinson, "Model solution for township water supply."
